Larry Gilbert Dahl

Recipient of THE MEDAL OF HONOR

Larry G. Dahl of Oregon City and Portland, was a Spec. 4th Class in the 359th Transportation Company, 27th Transportation Battalion, 8th Transportation Group. He was assigned as a machine gunner on a gun truck and killed in action after throwing himself on a hand grenade in order to save two of his brothers in arms during an action near An Khe, Binh Dinh Province, Vietnam, on 23 February 1971. For his selfless act of heroism, Dahl was awarded the nation’s highest military honor, the Medal of Honor. Dahl is dutifully honored in monuments at the Freedoms Foundation Medal of Honor Grove at Valley Forge and in the Clackamas County Historical Society Museum.
